Meet Our Doctor
Dr. Nicholas Sherman
Veterinarian and Practice Owner, Richmond Animal Hospital. Proudly continuing a 35-year legacy of local, independent veterinary care.
His Path to Veterinary Medicine
Dr. Sherman's path to veterinary medicine began with his grandfather, Dr. Lawrence Sherman, a small animal veterinarian in Plattsburgh, New York. "As far back as I can remember, I wanted to become a veterinarian," Dr. Sherman recalls. "My grandfather inspired me so much as a young child. I felt like nothing was more interesting than working with animals, and I always wanted to spend time with him in the clinic."
It was in his grandfather's practice where Dr. Sherman first learned about the beauty of veterinary medicine and, just as importantly, the value of serving your local community. That lesson stayed with him throughout his education and career.
After earning his undergraduate degree in pre-veterinary medicine from the University of New Hampshire, Dr. Sherman attended Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2014. He returned to Plattsburgh for his first veterinary position and has now been practicing for 11 years across Vermont and New York.
In September 2025, Dr. Sherman and his family became the proud owners of Richmond Animal Hospital, continuing the practice's 35-year legacy of locally-focused, community-centered veterinary care.
What Drives Dr. Sherman's Approach?
"I love building long-term relationships with families and their pets," he explains. "Being there for the joyful puppy visits, the active adult years, and providing compassionate support during the senior stage. That continuity is what drew me to general practice veterinary medicine."
His style is patient, down-to-earth, and rooted in clear communication. He takes time to listen, explains everything in plain language, and makes sure you feel confident about your decisions.

When He's Not Caring for Pets
Dr. Sherman loves Vermont's outdoor lifestyle. You'll find him skiing in winter, hiking the Green Mountains, or vacationing with his family in Ogunquit, Maine. A fun fact? Before veterinary school, he worked as a barista and still appreciates a good cup of coffee.
Oh, and his favorite Vermont treat? Maple cream.
In His Own Words
"I love all areas of veterinary medicine, and I can't wait to meet families in the clinic or in the community. Richmond has such a wonderful legacy of excellent veterinary care, and I'm honored to continue that tradition."
