How Richmond Animal Hospital Began
Curious about Richmond Animal Hospital's history? Here's how we began...
We've been caring for Richmond's pets since 1989, dedicated to providing high-quality pet care for the seasons of life.
Richmond Animal Hospital was founded on a simple belief: pets deserve veterinary care that treats them like family, not numbers on a chart. For over 35 years, we've served the Richmond community with that same commitment.
In September 2025, Dr. Nicholas Sherman and his family became the proud new owners, continuing our legacy of local, independent veterinary care.

Meet Our Doctors
Dr. Nicholas Sherman
Veterinarian and Practice Owner
Dr. Sherman's path to veterinary medicine began with his grandfather, Dr. Lawrence Sherman, a small animal veterinarian in Plattsburgh, New York. "As far back as I can remember, I wanted to become a veterinarian," Dr. Sherman recalls. "My grandfather inspired me so much as a young child. I felt like nothing was more interesting than working with animals, and I always wanted to spend time with him in the clinic."
It was in his grandfather's practice where Dr. Sherman first learned about the beauty of veterinary medicine and, just as importantly, the value of serving your local community. That lesson stayed with him throughout his education and career.
After earning his undergraduate degree in pre-veterinary medicine from the University of New Hampshire, Dr. Sherman attended Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2014. He returned to Plattsburgh for his first veterinary position and has now been practicing for 11 years across Vermont and New York.
In September 2025, Dr. Sherman and his family became the proud owners of Richmond Animal Hospital, continuing the practice's 35-year legacy of locally-focused, community-centered veterinary care.
What drives Dr. Sherman's approach?
"I love building long-term relationships with families and their pets," he explains. "Being there for the joyful puppy visits, the active adult years, and providing compassionate support during the senior stage. That continuity is what drew me to generaly practice veterinary medicine."
His style is patient, down-to-earth, and rooted in clear communication. He takes time to listen, explains everything in plain language, and makes sure you feel confident about your decisions.

Dr. Miranda Fritz
Veterinarian
Dr. Miranda Fritz grew up in California, but relocated to the East Coast in 2008. She received her bachelor’s of science at Niagara University where she discovered her passion for veterinary medicine through working in the neurobiology lab with animals and as a veterinary assistant, receptionist, and then technician at multiple small animal hospitals. She then worked as an intern at the local zoo before attending veterinary school at Ontario Veterinary College in Ontario, Canada. After graduation, she and her husband moved to Vermont and have called the Green Mountain State home ever since.
Dr. Miranda loves every aspect of veterinary medicine but has special interests in behavior medicine, diagnostic ultrasound, and dentistry. She is Fear Free Certified and dedicated to providing compassionate, gentle care for each patient she meets—treating them as if they were her own.
When she’s not at the clinic, you’ll likely find her exploring the trails, skiing the slopes, or running with her spirited Aussie/Pit mix, Hugo. On quiet, rainy days, she enjoys baking or relaxing with a good book and her two cats, Princess Buttercup and Westley.
