Dr. Clarke and Dr. Hament perform surgical procedures on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. There are two technicians dedicated to the surgery patients on each of these days. We use state of the art equipment to monitor all patients undergoing surgery. These allow us to view the heart rate, blood pressure, ECG and oxygen saturation simultaneously. Our most common surgeries include spays, neuters, mass removals, and dental procedures.

We offer in-house blood testing before surgery, which we will go over with you the morning your pet is admitted for surgery.  Another option is to make an appointment with a technician prior to the day of surgery to do more extensive blood testing. In this case the bloodwork would be sent to an outside lab. It is best to withhold food from your pet for at least 6 hours before this blood draw. It usually takes a few days for us to get the results. Our vets prefer the more comprehensive screen because it gives them the most information to ensure the safety of your pet.  For geriatric or ill pets, additional blood tests, electrocardiograms, or x-rays may be required before surgery as well.

Your pet should be fasted starting at 10p.m. the evening before the surgical procedure, however, water should be available. In most cases we will schedule your pet to be admitted between 8:15, and 8:45, and they will be able to go home that same afternoon or evening. In some cases we recommend that your pet stay overnight following surgery.
